May 13, 2010
Indonesian telecom operator Indosat recently announced that the company and Swedish Ericsson entered into a three-year agreement, under which the latter will help Indosat upgrade and modernize its existing network based on WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access)/HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) to HSPA Evolution, presenting a significant progress for Indosat's network to evolve to next-generation LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology, according to a press release by Ericsson on May 7. This mobile network, claiming to be the fastest HSPA Evolution mobile network in Asia so far, is expected to help Indosat's network cut energy consumption by up to 50% and reach a 42Mbps downlink speed and a 11Mbps uplink speed, according to the same source. Ericsson's deliverables for Indosat include radio base station 6000, MSS (Mobile Soft Switching) blade cluster, and MINI-LINK TN equipment. Network design, deployment, training and support services are also included.
